    Q. What are PSAs?

    A. Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are short, "non-commercial" announcements prepared to provide information to the public. Most PSAs are produced by nonprofit organizations, but commercial, for-profit organizations may also use them to promote nonprofit activities and events.

PSAs are available to community associations, advocate groups, nonprofit free or low cost public events and for-profit organizations that are promoting community-based nonprofit events.

All PSAs aired must meet federal and local rules and regulations. PSAs that do not meet these guidelines and standards will not be aired.

KPCP 88.3 FM and KCLF 1500 AM airs PSAs at its sole discretion and reserves the right to edit or not air submissions. The airing of Public Service Announcements is essential to KPCP’s mission to serve and inform the public. KPCP and KCLF seriously takes its role to assist non-profit organizations who receive little exposure through commercial and corporate media sources..

    Q. Why do organizations use PSAs?

    A. PSAs are used by organizations to:

  • Provide health and safety tips
  • Provide short, educational information and facts
  • Publicize community events
  • Assist in fund raising efforts

    Q. What information should PSAs contain?

    A.
  • PSAs SHOULD contain information that is beneficial to the community
  • PSAs SHOULD contain a public phone number, web address, and/or email address for further information
  • PSAs SHOULD NOT typically announce fundraising events for the financial benefit of the sponsoring organization or business
  • PSAs SHOULD NOT mention “cost” or “price.”
  • PSAs SHOULD NOT endorse, promote, or call to action.
  • PSAs SHOULD NOT use phrases as “BE THERE” or “JOIN US” unless the phrase is a personal appeal from an individual.

    • In that case, the person making the appeal will be liable for any possible litigation surrounding such a message.
